If you disagree with the date your claim starts from for any other reason you can appeal against the decision.
In order for a backdate of Council Tax Support to be allowed you will have to show 'good cause' why you did not apply earlier.
Backdating - Council Tax Support - Working Age With effect from 1 April 2019, the maximum period for which Council Tax Support claims may be backdated for working age claimants, has increased to three months.
This applies to all backdating requests made on or after 1 April 2019.
No changes to good cause The good cause provisions have not changed.
You need to have a good reason for not claiming at the right time; we call this having or showing 'good cause'.
Working age claimants will still need to demonstrate good cause throughout the period for which they are requesting backdating.Use this form if you wish to claim for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support for a period in the last month which you have not already been paid for.Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support is normally paid from the Monday after we receive your claim.You notify of us of the period you want the backdated benefit for and tell us why your claim is late.We will need to see proof of your income, savings and rent payments for the relevant period and any proof to support your reasons (for example, medical certificates or hospital letters).
